Lucrino Lake

NATURAL BEAUTIES > Phlaegreian Lakes

During the past the lake occupied a wider surface extending from Punta Epitaffio to Punta Carusa.
The name of Lucrino was associated, in the Roman age, with the mollusc farming.
These waters produced such an abundance of mollusc and fish that the name Lucrino is said to derive from the word "lucrum" that means "gain".
Later the geologic alternian of the land due to the famous eruption of Monte Nuovo in 1538 A.D. changed the lake shape.
